General

I'm brand new to View. How can I get started?

We have a couple options to help get you started. You can check out our Wolf Pass case study.

What's View?

Turn your 3D data into a story with View – a web application for collaboration and visualisation. View provides an intuitive, visual environment to share data insights and involve other experts. With the click of a button, you can upload Views of your model from Leapfrog Geo, Geothermal and Works. Once your model is uploaded into View, you can easily share and collaborate around your 3D model with your team or stakeholders.

You’ll be able to access your Views in a web browser, from anywhere in the world using most devices. Since View is a web application, you won’t need to install any software: you can dive right into your data.

I keep seeing the word "Views" - what does this mean?

We call projects uploaded to View your Views. Any time you see this word - we’re just referring to your uploaded projects. Likewise, a View refers to a single uploaded project.

How do I sign up for View?

You can sign up for View from the View website. If you already have a My Leapfrog ID, you’ll have a View account under that same email and password. You’ll just need to sign in.

If you don’t have a My Leapfrog ID, you can create one here.

What devices and machines can I use View with?

View can be run on a number of devices - including desktops, laptops, and tablets. As long as your device’s browser supports WebGL, an API used to create graphics in a web browser, it will be able to run View. We recommend using Google Chrome, but also support upload to Firefox 60 or higher, Microsoft Edge 42 or higher, and Safari 10 or higher. If a view fails to load or becomes unresponsive in Chrome or Edge please try opening it in Firefox, which has higher browser memory limits. Older browser versions may need to be updated before View will work. We do not support Internet Explorer. You can check if your browser supports WebGL here.

If you’re using a tablet to access a View, it’s best if you’re connected to wifi. Some projects require large amounts of data to be downloaded and your provider’s data charges may apply.

Please note that if you’re accessing View from a tablet, you will not be able to use the transparency feature.

Leapfrog & View Integration

What Leapfrog programs integrate with View?

Currently, you can upload Views of your model from Leapfrog Geo, Geothermal, Works and EDGE.

I can’t see the upload to View button in Leapfrog!

Don’t worry! We’ve got you covered. You just need to configure your Leapfrog settings. To do this, go to the Leapfrog main menu > Settings > User Interface > check Show View upload. The button should now appear in the top right corner of the scene.

If you are using an older version of Leapfrog, this setting can be found in Leapfrog main menu > Settings > View > check Enable View integration.

How do I upload from Leapfrog?

Add all the data to the Scene View in Leapfrog that you’d like to upload to View. All the visible data in the Scene View will upload to View. Click the Upload to View button to start the upload. You’ll be able to select which data you’d like to upload (visible data will be selected by default). Follow the dialog prompts to complete your upload.

You can also upload a saved scene to View by right-clicking on it and selecting Upload to View.

Once your upload is successful, a link will appear to open your View.

Are there any Leapfrog object types that are not currently supported?

At this time, the following Leapfrog objects are not currently supported:

  • Lineation Data (uploaded as points)
  • Variography ellipsoid
  • Fence Section
  • Textured Mesh

Why do my collar points not show my hole ID labels in View?

By default collar points are uploaded as flat coloured elements to View. In order to display the hole ID, in the Leapfrog scene set the collar colouring to “HoleID”. During upload this will allow the HoleID to be set as a property on the collar points. When you click on the collar within the View, the collar ID will display in the properties panel.

We are working towards displaying text labels within View.

When I slice a multi-part model in View, why does it show a single colour on the slice plane?

If you upload multiple meshes as one element in View, it will only display a single colour on the slice plane. In order to display the correct colour for each mesh on the slice plane, you will need to upload the meshes as separate output volumes from your Leapfrog application.

Using View

How many uploads can I have on my dashboard?

Right now you can have an unlimited number of uploads on your dashboard. Please note we do have data size limits for each View to ensure your View works on a variety of devices.

How large can each of my Views be?

We currently limit data upload capacity to ensure that your Views will open and run on a variety of devices (including those with lower processing speeds, like tablets). The upload limits for individual Views are subject to change at any time:

  • The largest object that can be uploaded is 25 MB, which precludes many GIS objects. Large block models will likely also reach this limit.
  • The largest View that can be uploaded is approximately 100 MB.
  • The maximum number of objects that can be uploaded is 100.
  • The maximum number of unique category codes that can be uploaded for an object is 256.

If you find that your Leapfrog scenes are above the data limits, we recommend uploading only your key model elements to View. Uploading only the crucial parts of your model is also helpful to your collaborators. This allows them to focus on understanding the vital information quickly, so they can start contributing their expertise right away.

How many slides can I have in a View?

Right now you can have an unlimited number of slides in your View. However, the loading time of your View will increase as more slides are added.

Can I delete an upload?

You bet! You can do this in your dashboard by clicking Delete. You’ll only be able to delete Views that you own.

If you’re a collaborator, you’ll be able to click Remove to get rid of a View on your dashboard. If you remove yourself from a View, the owner will be able to see you are no longer a collaborator on their dashboard.

Can I share my Views with the public?

You must be the owner to share a View publicly. To manage the privacy settings, you can click the Manage Sharing icon on the navigation bar when you’re in a View. In the sharing dialog, you can toggle a View from the default private setting to public. From there you can share the public link or copy the iframe code and place it inside an external web page allowing anyone to open the View, navigate the model, and click through the slides all without having to log in or sign up.

These users will not be able to change properties or settings or provide feedback on slides. To do this, they need to be added as collaborators in the sharing dialog, and must have an account.

What’s the difference between an owner and a collaborator of a View?

Currently, we have 3 different types of users for View projects:

  • Owner. If you uploaded the data, you are the View owner.
  • Collaborator (editing permissions). You will be able to edit most settings and use the slicing, measurement, and slide tools. Editing permissions are set by the View owner.
  • Collaborator (viewing permissions). You will be able to use the slicing and measurement tools, and view slides. Viewing permissions are set by the View owner.

Below is a table outlining owner and collaborator permissions.

Who can see my uploaded Views?

You control who sees your Views. By default, all uploaded Views default to private (not shared with anyone). You can choose to add collaborators and can modify their permissions at any time.

How do I share my View with private collaborators?

You must be the View owner to share a View. To modify sharing permissions, you can click the Manage Sharing icon from the View dashboard, or from the navigation bar when you’re in a View. You’ll be able to send an email invite link to whomever you’d like to collaborate with using View. You can also copy the private link to send directly to the collaborators. For collaborators to be able to leave feedback within View, they must be given editing permissions.

How can I modify sharing permissions?

You must be the View owner to modify sharing permissions. To modify sharing permissions, you can click the Manage Sharing icon from the View dashboard, or from the navigation bar when you’re in a View.

Can I replace or modify my Leapfrog scenes in View?

No, you cannot. Once a View is uploaded, you can manipulate how the data is viewed, but you cannot change the data. You’ll need to upload and create a new View.

Why can’t I edit anything in View?

If you can’t edit anything in a View, you are likely a collaborator with viewing only permissions. You’ll need to ask the View owner to change your permissions from viewing to editing.

Technical Support

View is running slowly - what can I do?

If View is running slowly, you can try the following:

  • Disable Transparency. To do this, click the Settings icon on the side bar and toggle Transparency off.
  • Try using another device. The higher the processing speed of your device is, the faster View will run.
  • Upload a smaller project. Remember, View is a high-level collaboration tool that should be used to see key geological features. You don’t need to upload all your 3D model features.
  • If you’re using a tablet, make sure you’re connected to wifi. Some projects require large amounts of data to be downloaded (your provider’s data charges may apply).
  • Reduce the size or number of annotations. Large drawings and many annotations can cause your View to run slowly.

You can contact support@lfview.com for additional help.

What browsers can I use with View?

For the best experience with View we recommend Google Chrome. However, we also support viewing from Firefox 60 or higher, Microsoft Edge 42 or higher, and Safari 10 or higher. If a view fails to load or becomes unresponsive in Chrome or Edge please try opening it in Firefox, which has higher browser memory limits. Older browser versions may need to be updated before View will work. We do not support Internet Explorer.

Your browser will need to support WebGL, an API used to create graphics in a web browser. You can check if your browser supports WebGL here.

Can I upload my own 3D data?

Currently, you can only upload data from Leapfrog Geo, Geothermal and Works. Please stay tuned as we work to integrate with additional client libraries.
